Frequently Asked Questions

What is in your candles?

Our candles contain only 4 ingredients: All-natural coconut and soy wax (90% coconut and 10%soy), lead and zinc free cotton wicks, and premium grade, phthalate-free fragrance and essential oils.

Why Sox Wax?

Soy Wax is derived from a renewable resource/vegetable (soybeans) and is also produced domestically from Midwest farms.  Some benefits that we love about soy include:

  • It is a natural wax option, unlike paraffin wax that may contain toxins
  • Has a lower melting point than other waxes thus lasting longer
  • Contains no petrol-soot that will blacken walls or ceilings
  • Biodegradable and easy to clean-up with soap and water
  • Produced domestically, driving business to American farmers

Why cotton wick?

We choose a specially braided flat cotton wick that is lead and zinc free.  It maintains a slight curl when burning that moves the tip of the wick into the hottest part of the flame, which helps to minimize or eliminate carbon buildup (otherwise known as mushrooming), reduces smoking and provides a ‘self-trimming’ effect.

How long should I burn my candle?

After receiving your new candle, it is best to let it burn long enough to allow the melted wax on the surface to reach the edge of the jar.  This could take from 2-4 hours depending on the size of your candle.  CO then recommends burning your candle for no longer than 4 hours at a time for maximum quality.

How do I prevent “tunneling”?

Coconut and soy wax is considered a “memory wax” and will only burn as far as it did on the the previous burn. It is important to allow the melt pool to reach the edge of the jar on the first burn as well as all other burns. This will prevent the candle from burning down the middle (tunneling).

I have dark spots on my candle!! Why?

Coconut and soy wax naturally expands in warmer temps and contracts in cooler temps.  The dark spots are where the wax has not contracted and has not pulled away from the sides of the container.  This is a normal occurrence and will not affect the quality, burn, or scent of the candle.

I have oil on the top of my candle!  Why?

Coconut and soy wax naturally expands in warmer temps and contracts in cooler temps.  During extreme temps changes (especially those caused during shipping) the wax expands and any excess fragrance oil can separate (or sweat) out from the top of the candle.  This will not effect the quality, burn, or scent of your candle.  Just remove the excess oil with a dry paper towel or tissue and you are ready to burn!

My candle won't light!!!???

It is very important to keep your wick trimmed to ¼ on the first burn and everyone after that.  This will help you keep it burning and help with tunneling.

How fast can I get my goodies?

All candles are made to order so our processing time range from 2-5 days for retail orders and 5-10 days for wholesale orders.

How do I clean the candle jar?

Natural ingredients make our candles super easy to clean up!  After the candle has cooled long enough to touch, pour any remaining liquid wax into a safe, disposable container.  Then wash with hot water and soap.  Dry out and reuse!
